We are excited to announce that Safe Drinking Water Foundation water testing kits were used directly, in a hands-on way, this school year by 32,252 students! We sent 515 water testing kits to schools across Canada and they were put to great use!
Additionally, we are very happy to announce that we already have some funding to send sponsored water testing kits to schools across Canada this fall, so request your sponsored kits quickly to be sure of receiving at least one!
Another awesome announcement is that we are bringing back the Student Action on Canadian Water Attitudes Competition this school year! There will be one prize package worth $3,000 for the winning school at the national level (a water bottle filling station, a plaque, some water testing kits, and possibly some reusable water bottles) and one prize package worth $2,200 for a Saskatchewan school (a water bottle filling station and a plaque)!
Have a great summer, but remember to conserve water when gardening and when caring for your lawn (if you have one)!

The 2024-2025 Student Action on Canadian Water Attitudes Competition will Launch this Fall!
Schools across Canada, from coast to coast to coast, will compete in the 2024-2025 Student Action on Canadian Water Attitudes Competition this upcoming school year! These are the steps involved in a Student Action on Canadian Water Attitudes Project:
- Students will survey people in their community to discover the percentage of them who know the source of their tap water and to discover a behaviour that should be changed (for example, leaving the tap on while brushing their teeth or taking showers that are too long).
- Students will educate their fellow community members about the source of their tap water, how to protect the source of their tap water, and what action(s) they should take to conserve water.
- After they have educated their community, they will conduct a follow-up survey, with the same participants, to discover the percentage of them who now know the source of their tap water, the percentage who have changed their behaviour to conserve water, and they will calculate the volume of water that is being conserved.
A panel of volunteer judges will award points based on the subjective criteria and SDWF staff members will award points based on the objective criteria. There will be one prize package worth $3,000 for the winning school at the national level (a water bottle filling station, a plaque, some water testing kits, and possibly some reusable water bottles) and one prize package worth $2,200 for a Saskatchewan school (a water bottle filling station and a plaque)!
Teachers - watch for email messages this fall about the launch of the competition and more information!
If you want to be a volunteer judge, please contact Nicole at info@safewater.org or 1.306.934.0389 and she will be happy to provide you with more information and get your short bio and picture for SDWF's website!

We Still Have Some Kits Left!
Despite the hundreds of kits that we sent to schools during the 2023-2024 school year and it being rare that sponsored kits of all types are available to teachers anywhere in Canada, our sponsors have been so generous that we still have sponsored kits available to send to schools that request them this fall! Now is the perfect time to request sponsored kits if you would like to receive some in September! The first teachers to request sponsored kits will be the first teachers to receive sponsored kits, and every teacher will receive one sponsored water testing kit while sponsored kits are available!
